Ride to raise money for Domestic Violence Charities
Earlier this year the event organiser, Siobhan McIlveen, lost an old and very dear friend who was a victim of domestic violence . It was devastating to lose someone so full of warmth, kindness, strength and joy.
In the following weeks and months there have been many similar stories in the news reporting that countless other women are struggling with violence in their lives every day. But there are also many women’s stories that don’t make the headlines.
Seeing how prevalent this issue is, Siobhan wanted to help make a positive difference. As she and her friend both grew up riding horses together, she was inspired to organise a fundraising horse ride to raise funds that could go to grass-roots community organisations. Helping women and children impacted by domestic & family violence, to provide practical aid where it’s most needed.
‘Riding free from DV’ will be held on Saturday, 23rd November 2024 in beautiful Megalong Valley and is open to both riders and walkers. Everyone is invited to participate, have fun and raise awareness .
Horses can be liberating and empowering so being in nature, relaxing with them, often helps with feelings of connection and trust. The event plans to help heal and inspire others in responding to domestic violence.
Riders, walkers and support crew are invited to set up their own linked page to raise funds by signing up below as a ‘fundraiser’.
This event is auspiced by The Blue Mountains Women’s Health and Resource Centre and kindly hosted by the Blue Mountains Trail Riders Club. If Riders are not already members of ATHRA, they can purchase a day membership for a small nominal fee that will cover insurance on the day.
