If you are trying out a club or unsure if trail riding is for you, you can purchase a trial membership for only $20. This trial day membership provides you with insurance cover for the specific ride.

All you need is a well fitting saddle and bridle for your horse, suitable clothing for yourself and suitable footwear that has a slight heel to prevent your foot from sliding through the stirrup. Our clubs often meet up in different locations so having access to horse transport is good too.

Ideally you should be able to walk, trot and canter your horse under control. If you are concerned about joining we recommend you contact your local club and have a chat about the type of rides they do and how long they ride for so you can gain confidence.

You can join at any age, however juniors must have a guardian with them on rides

No, however, to support your club it is certainly appreciated that you come on rides as often as you can. That’s the fun part of being in a club you get to meet so many lovely people that often become the best of friends.

Once you join your local ATHRA club, it is possible to join other ATHRA club rides, its quite common that other club members ride together

Yes, you can, however we recommend you contact your local club and have a chat about the type of rides they do and how long they ride. Sometimes one of their members will take you for a ride before an event to make sure you are confident to come on a club ride.

Yes, you must have your own horse to participate in ATHRA Club rides (or have a good friend who has one) – we do not allow hired horses to participate
