About the Club

The Toowoomba Trail Riding Club is a very active, family friendly club formed on the Darling Downs in 2002 and is affiliated with ATHRA (Australian Trail Horse Riding Association).   All levels of rider and all breeds of horses are welcome.  The club holds monthly trail rides, some through private property, and some along quiet country roads as well as days on more challenging terrain for those spirited adventurers.

All rides are graded from 1 to 5, so one knows what to expect.  Sometimes it’s just a morning ride and home for lunch or we take a saddlebag lunch and sometimes we ride to a venue where lunch is provided or can be purchased.  All club events are posted on our club Facebook group “Toowoomba Trail Riding Club”.

In addition to this the club also has a performing team called “The Outback Riders” – an equestrian drill team that performs to music at shows and other events in and around Toowoomba as well as further afield.  It is a drill team with a difference in that some of the riders also do some faster moves without flags.  The team also has its own production of “The Man From Snowy River” which has been performed at various shows.

All members are welcome to try the Outback Riders performing team – there is no extra cost.  We always welcome enthusiastic riders to come and join our fun-loving team!  The only requirements are that you have your own horse or consistent access to a horse and transportation to practices.  We usually practice for about 2 hours on a Sunday for about 6-8 weeks before a show.  We are not constantly practising all year – we have a break between shows.  You do not have to commit to every show we are doing although that would be great.  The number of shows varies from year to year.  We are a close-knit group and aim to create a family environment at practices, so nobody feels uncomfortable.  We are very supportive of both horses and riders.  All gear to dress the horses in our team colours is provided as well as the ties and royal blue shirts for riders.

The benefits of team riding are many.  You will become a better rider and your horse will become better trained and easier to handle.  You will have fun riding with and socializing with your team.  Why not come along to the next orientation afternoon?

The Outback Riders team is the main fund raiser for the club.   All our riders and ground crew are volunteers but the club receives a donation for our performances and, after expenses have been paid, we then donate to various charities.  Some of the charities we have donated to over the years are Riding for the Disabled, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Lifeflight, Toowoomba Hospice, Children’s Ward at Toowoomba Hospital, Immune Deficiencies Foundation, Buy a Bale, Dolly’s Dream and many more.

Club History

The Toowoomba Trail Ride Club Inc was formed in 2002 by a group of like-minded individuals. In the first instance the club was formed to be the host club of a major equine event held annually. The club’s main role was to host a charity ride in aid of the Riding for Disabled which was a great success. The club has a solid membership of all ages and abilities.

The TTRC is well known as a keen community supporter benefiting the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland, Riding for Disabled and other beneficiaries when called upon. As a result of this association the RASQ Show committee in 2003 asked the TTRC to form a performing team called “The Outback Riders”
